  • International Trade- EFISC joins the ITC standardsmap.org  17/12/2012

The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint organization of the United Nations and World Trade Organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, has one goal: to help businesses become more competitive in global markets, speeding economic development and contributing to sustainable development.

As part of this goal, ITC has developed a new web platform called Standards Map that provides comprehensive and comparable information on sustainability standards and audit protocols, with the aim to strengthen the capacity of producers, exporters and buyers to participate in more sustainable production and trade.ITC collaborates with over 75 organizations that have developed standards systems, codes and reporting systems, among which are the European Feed Ingredients Safety Certification (EFISC) and the Quality and Safety System for Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures (FAMI-QS). The EFISC scheme is based on the EU legislation and science base, building on the experience and expertise of the sector organisations involved. EFISC certification contributes to fair trading practices and to the free movement of feed materials. The FAMI-QS Code addresses safety, quality and regulatory compliance of specialty feed ingredients and their mixtures by (i) minimizing the risk that unsafe specialty feed ingredients and their mixtures enter the feed and food chain; (ii) enabling an operator to implement the objectives of the Feed Hygiene Regulation (183/2005/EC); and (iii) providing measures to ensure that other feed safety regulatory requirements are met.
